Amy (Richmond) Lane graduated from Cloudcroft High School in 1979. In 1983 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from New Mexico State University. Following college, she worked in retail management until she decided to return to college to get certified to teach.
In the spring of 1989, Mrs. Lane earned a teaching certificate and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching third grade in the fall of 1989 at Cloudcroft Elementary. Mrs. Lane taught third grade for one year and then moved to the new middle school and taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade language arts and communication skills for eight years. During her seventh year of teaching in the middle school, she began working on an administrative license. She completed the coursework for that licensure during her 8th year of teaching in the middle school.
With her newly acquired administrative license, Mrs. Lane was excited when an assistant principal/ Special Education Coordinator position opened up in the same district. The timing was perfect, and she worked in this position for one year when she was asked to fill the newly opened elementary principal position.
Mrs. Lane has been the Cloudcroft Elementary School principal for five years. She has worked for Cloudcroft School District for 15 years.
She feels fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time when positions opened up and to have been allowed to stay in the Cloudcroft Municipal School District for 15 years. There is not another school in which she would rather work.
